Coaches Corner – Our Favorite High Protein Snacks!

By the Hidden Gym Team

Published July 26, 2024

Snacking can be a major downfall for your fitness goals, as a lot of snack type foods are calorie dense, high in fat, low in protein, and full of chemicals.

On the one hand, if you are eating wholesome, nutrient dense, protein packed meals throughout the day at regularly scheduled intervals, you will be less likely to snack. Snacking tends to come into play when there is no sustainable eating plan in place, you get frantically hungry, and reach for the fastest most convenient thing.

On the other hand, snacks can be a great way to help you hit your calorie needs and hold you over to the next meal. Here are a few favorite snack options from the [Hidden] Gym Training Team that we often recommend to our clients. These snacks are high in protein, minimally processed, and micronutrient dense.

Beef Jerky and Meat Sticks
Though jerky and meat sticks can sometimes have a lot of preservatives, it is a great option for a high protein and low fat snack.

Tuna Packs and Smoked Salmon
Pre portioned packs of tuna and salmon can be an easy way to get protein and omega-3 fatty acids.

Fat Free Greek Yogurt
Fat free greek yogurt is a great source of protein, low in carbs, zero fat, and high in calcium. Try adding some berries, honey, or stevia for a little extra flavor.

Cottage Cheese
Another great source of calcium and protein.

Hard Boiled Eggs
Eggs are some of the most nutrient dense sources of animal protein on the planet. Hard boiled eggs can be easily made ahead of time and packed away for on the go.

Granola
You can often find protein fortified granola, giving the benefits of protein with the fiber and carbs offered by the grains.

Bananas
Who doesn't love bananas? A great source of potassium, and they come individually wrapped from nature!

Raw Fruit
Raw fruit is a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth with a natural source of sugar and vitamins.

Raw Veggies

Dip your raw veggies in greek yogurt dressing or hummus.

Edamame

Hummus

Ready-To-Drink Protein Shakes
We love the Fairlife Core Power protein shakes. Redcon MRE shakes are another favorite of the training team.

Nuts
Nuts can be a great snack, full of healthy fats. Just be careful of eating too many as it can add too many fats and extra calories to your day.

Protein Bars
We keep protein bars lower on the list as a last resort, simply because they can be full of prebiotic fiber, sugar alcohols, and added sugar
