Coaches Corner - 3 Tips to Make your Workouts More Efficient

As you head into the gym to get your workout in, you may be short on time. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your time in the gym.

1. Go into the gym with a plan

Having your workouts planned out ahead of time on an app, phone note, or piece of paper, can help you ensure that you're able to get in and out without wasting time thinking about what you're going to do once you get to the gym. In addition to this, having a plan or program to follow is essential for making progress and improving your performance over time.

2. Set a timer for your rest periods

Rest periods are important, but they can also become opportunities for distractions of chatter and scrolling on the phone. Set a timer on your phone or smart watch for 60-90 seconds to keep your rest periods short and efficient.

3. Put your phone on "Do Not Disturb"

If you're like me, your smartphone can be the single greatest distraction in the gym. Those rest periods can easily turn into a scrolling session, Youtube rabbit hole, or answering texts and emails. Putting your phone on DND will mute your notifications and help to separate your gym time from work and social time. Another option is to put your phone in airplane mode. This will shut off your wifi and data, not allowing any texts, emails, or notifications to come through. But if you're listening to music from your phone, airplane mode will also shut off your bluetooth.
